You have just made the greatest decision, growing marijuana indoor! Not only do you know exactly what is used on the girl’s but you also get to see the ladies transform into many stages.
They can be started by seeds or clones. You also have a choice of the type of growing medium (materiel used to grow the seed in) and lighting you would like to use.
For the beginner’s the marijuana plant can be a male or a female unless the seeds are feminized. We do not what the male plants, this is why I refer the them as “girls” or “ladies”. If the males are not removed, the females will change into males. More on that later.
There are other factors that need to be considered. Nutrients, ventilation, disease and insects. By being grown indoor you control the conditions, this gives the ladies a greater advantage than the others grow outdoor, producing quicker harvest and the big, sweet, sticky flowers we all desire!
Picking The Space And Device
Alright, the first thing you need to do is figure where you want to do the growing. How big do you want the area, are there outlets nearby and is it in the way. I would highly recommend using a surge protector. Once you pick your spot it’s there for good, it’s not really easy to move.
Now it’s time to pick your growing device. There are so many growing devices out there theses days. You can purchase something online or even make your own. I have tried both and prefer to order, it is so much easier to open a box and put it together. In the long run pricing is about the same.
Grow Tent – The grow tent is probably used by most beginners. It is less expensive and takes up less room. There are many brands and sizes you can purchase. A grow tent is made of a materiel that has one side that is reflective, much like Mylar, there are holes for ventilation, view windows and closed by a zipper for a tight seal.
Grow Cabinet – The grow cabinet also come in many brands and sizes. Growing in a grow closet is for the advanced or someone with plenty of room to grow indoor. Building a grow closet is much easier than a tent. The grow closets have reflective material like Mylar or panted a white on the inside, painting will work just as well as reflective materials.
Grow Room – The grow room is for the very advanced grower or someone that doesn’t plan on moving any time soon. The grow room is just exactly as it sounds, a whole room to grow some beautiful ladies. Of course the bigger you go the more expensive it is going to get but we’ll worth every single penny.
Lighting That Is Right For You
Now we come to the lighting. As with the growing device’s the grow light has many brands and types to choose from. Keep in mind some are more expensive to purchase and run than other’s. The kind of lightning you choose will help you choose the cooling system if needed.
In any case you want to make sure you have enough lumes or watts that the ladies will need. Minimal being 2000 and Optimum 7000 or above. I prefer L E.D. lighting, they seem to be less expensive to purchase and run, with no cooling system needed so far.
As I move my ladies into a larger area I will have to add more lighting so the need of a cooling system will be needed. Below are some examples:
Choosing Your Grow Medium
When it comes to growing indoor you can choose to go with soil or hydroponics. Soil is of course is just that soil. Growing soil should look dark and rich with a loose texture which allows proper drainage. A good soil should contain some of these ingredients, it does not have to contain all the ingredients.
- Sandy Loam
- Bone Meal
- Fish Meal
- Coco Coir
- Crab Meal
- Earthworm Castings
Fox Farms, Happy Frog and Black Gold are a few I can think of for now. These can be found at your local gardening center.
With hydroponics the root system is under water and in grow baskets with some type of grow medium. This is need to support the ladies. As with the soil mediums there are also several kinds of hydroponic mediums, below are some examples, can be purchased at your local hydroponic store.
Nutrients And Other Factors
Just like outdoor gardening you need to feed those lovely ladies and keep them safe from nasty diseases and insects. This is a topic that we will talk about further in depth later. But since you’re in control this will be so much easier. You control when it’s day or night, what the temperature is and how humid you want it inside the growing device.
When the growing device is getting too hot inside you will need a cooling system, a ventilation system is strongly advised. With meter readings the pH level should be kept between 5.5 and 6.5 and the EC (Electrical Conductivity) level changes with the stages of the ladies. An air pump will also be needed to keep the water in a continuous circulation.
Once you have the harvest ready it is time to prune and cure. Pruning is when the stem’s and then the bud’s or flower’s are removed from the ladies. Curing is a slow process of removing the moisture from the flower’s. This also improves the taste and quality of the marijuana.
Enjoying Your Harvest All Year Long
It really doesn’t take rocket science to grow indoor, but it does take a lot of patience and love to transform the girl’s into ladies so they can produce the best they can. You are in total control of all conditions from lighting to nutrients. You will have quicker and larger harvests and you can enjoy growing indoor all year long.
The more harvests you get the easier it becomes, and if you really enjoy doing this as much as I do you’ll probably star purchasing bigger and bigger tents or what ever device you choose to use. As long as you keep the ladies happy with the right temperatures and humidity, well feed and at the proper pH level, they will definitely keep you happy after the harvest.
